1969 – 79

The century old business conglomerate made its first foray into healthcare by unveiling the cutting edge facility in healthcare in Kolkata. It was the first private hospital of the city and the foundation stone was laid by late B M Birla along with Y B Chavan, the then defence minister of India. Integration of research into clinical practice and provision of quality medical care to all section of the society was the guiding principle of the hospital. Eminent specialists’ surgeons and physician from the city and abroad were invited to be a part of this momentous journey.

1979 – 1989

The hospital is guided by the mission to offer the highest standards of medical treatment to all sections of society. Hence, the institution kept on upgrading their facility with modern medical equipment and advanced technologies. Patient care and quality healthcare were the main focus of the hospital. A number of clinical specialties evolved, such as the paediatrics, the neurology department of gynecology and many other specialties. From the very beginning, it expanded to offer the latest, most innovative and comprehensive treatments for individuals with a wide range of medical conditions.

1989 – 1999

The journey to serve the community took a new direction with the establishment of a super specialty cardiac hospital — BM Birla Heart Research Centre — adjacent to the premises. Both the hospitals earned the reputation of delivering cutting-edge healthcare interventions. Patient health care being the pivotal focus, it attracted many luminous personalities to experience the medical services. Clinical process and evidence based practice underpinned its maiden award of being the first hospital in India to receive the National Accreditation Board of Hospital award. It was an internationally recognised healthcare facility that always attracted physicians, clinicians, surgeons and nurses to share their knowledge for the betterment of the society at large.

1999 – 2019

With the spirit of integrity, teamwork, empathy and compassion, CMRI has always looked forward to innovations and excellence. New clinical trials, researches both in the national and international arena have established the hospital among the world medical fraternity. Keeping pace with clinical updates and saving lives is the mantra that has made CMRI the healthcare destination in the eastern part of India. In 2016, the group launched the most progressive center of the clinical care at Jaipur — The Rukmani Birla Hospital. This newest addition has transformed the healthcare landscape for North India and is a benchmark for all new facilities.
